It is with sadness that we hear of the death of Gabriella Cardazzo, daughter of Carlo Cardazzo the founder of the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice, Italy where she took over the running of the gallery with her brother Paolo (1936-2011) after her father’s death. In the 1970s, as well as making her own video work, she was instrumental in making Cavallino an important centre for video art where over 150 works were produced by many Italian and international artists. These works still resonate today and are represented in international collections, including REWINDItalia. She was also close to Richard Demarco, the Italo-Scottish cultural promotor and educator, where they produced exchange exhibitions between Scotland and Italy. Below is an interview conducted by Laura Leuzzi in 2017 with Gabriella for research project Richard Demarco: The Italian Connection.
